The Museum of the India Company since 1984 is installed in a building of the citadel of Port-Louis, a marvel of military architecture of the seventeenth century by the Spaniards initiated and completed by the architect Jacques Corbineau. The theme of the museum of the India Company, unique in France, makes relive to the visitor the extraordinary history of the great trading companies of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Models of vessels, prints, old maps, Indo-European furniture, Chinese porcelain, Indian cotton are evidence of this incredible epic sea. It is this quest for precious goods which led officers of the Company at the end of long and perilous journeys sea, on the shores of Africa, East Asia and America to build counters which names of the past still resonate adventurous Ouiddah, Moka, Pondicherry, Chandernagore, Pegu, Canton ...
